Kids still want what kids have always wanted: to call their best friend and make plans for Saturday. To ask dad when he’s home from work. To ring grandma just because. And to do it themselves - not on your phone, with you hovering.
But phones became smartphones, and talking came bundled with apps, ads, strangers and the infinite scroll. Nobody wants that in the mix just yet.
So families get a bad choice: hand over the whole internet, or stay the family switchboard for another five years.
We built a third option.

The big questions
What is Cordee and how does it work?
Cordee is the phone before their first phone, so you can hold off on smartphones a bit longer. It does two things and nothing else: calls and voice notes. No apps, no notifications, no internet to wander off into. It runs over WiFi rather than the phone network, so there's no SIM and no number to dial... your child just taps a name and calls. Setup takes a few minutes via the companion app - you add the people they're allowed to reach, choose the hours that work for your family and you're away.
Who can call, and can a stranger get through?
Cordee can call any Cordee, or any device with the Cordee app. So whether it's parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cats or dogs... all they need is our Cordee app. And because Cordee doesn't use traditional phone numbers, only people you've approved can reach the device. Each one has a unique "Cordee code" that you share and approve directly, so there's no way for a stranger to dial in.
Does it need a subscription? What can the device do without one?
Cordee works out of the box on a free plan, so you can call other Cordees and the Cordee app for nothing. Paid subscriptions are there for households who want a bit more.
Why is this better than an old phone with parental controls, a landline, a smartwatch, or another WiFi phone?
Parental controls on smart devices are a game of whack-a-mole... kids are increasingly tech savvy so there's always another loophole they'll find before you do. A landline means fiddly setup, strangers ringing at dinner and numbers anyone can dial. A smartwatch is easy to lose, and often more about tracking than talking. Even other WiFi landlines still lean on numbers to dial and memorise, which isn't much fun for small fingers. Cordee does one thing well - it lets your child tap a name and call the people you've approved, and nobody else. Nothing to lock down, nothing to memorise, nothing to outgrow in a month.
What age is Cordee made for?
Cordee is simple enough for any age from five upwards to pick up and use. We focused on making it intuitive rather than locking it to an age range, so it works just as well for younger kids as older ones. The whole point is delaying the smartphone conversation for as long as possible, and we're firmly in the "later is better" camp.
When will Cordee be available?
Towards the end of 2026 for the first batch.
